Gott Nytt År - Happy new year

Here I am with only a layer of basecoat (Hydrating from LA girls) on my nails after several attempts of a fitting NY manicure. Heck knows if I find one. My 14 yr old is cleaning his room and walk in closet, ven vacuumed the floor - voluntarily, cause he want everything to be neat for the new year to come. I don't have the foggiest why he turned out this way, but both my sons are extraordinary good kids :-)

Since the age of 18 I have colored my hair cause my natural color is typically mousy brown and I have been through every color imaginable - from golden blond to black tulip, copper, mahogany and back. Most of the colorings I have done at home without having any trouble at all ever. Until today. The package said reddish brown and alluringly "without ammonia",  so even though I don't know the label I went ahead and bought it with a frisson of misgiving. And of course - it turned out somewhat light mahogany and - it did NOT cover all the hair. So now I look like...well like I have some sort of very uneven highlights of a more mousy color. Sam looked at me and said - "red, hmmm your like Donna (in That so 70th show) - a redtop". If you ask me, it does look a bit strange when you look at it closely, but I'm really not sure it's a good idea to try to cover the mess with a darker hue of a fabric I know of. Who knows, it might all fall out LOL.

Outside it bangs and my poor poor Fiona is starting to get into a fit. She is very gun-shy like many other animals, so even though I have stuffed her ears with fat cotton (haha, tell me the right English word for that), in a while I'm going to feed her some doggie tranquilizers hidden in yummy meatballs. Better zonked out than scared shitless if you ask me. Yesterday on the radio they told that tonight the population of Sweden (all 11-12 million of us) will spend 500 million Swedish Kronas (SEK) on fireworks. Can you believe that sum? Not only do they play with the mental health of dogs etc, but they contaminate the air and ground with heavy metals and such....for the life of me I can't understand that it's allowed. I'm no sourpuss, I do think that well done fireworks are very pretty and breathtaking, but when it's at the cost of animals and environment, they ought to outlaw the whole thing.

So hopefully Fiona will sleep it through hidden in the spare bedroom in the basement with the radio turned up loud. We are going to have a small seafood banquet and some champs later on but I doubt very much that I will be able to stay awake until the stroke of 12. Old age is getting to me ;-)

Storage???

Look what I just retrieved from our mailbox:

a box filled with polish. I just peaked at the top layer and then counted the rest and I think there must be like 60 bottles of glory. All I can say is - how fun!! Specially since the cost was less than two bottles of Dior polishes LOL. The big question now is - where do I put them? You should see my studio - it's full with quilting stuff, with botanical perfumery paraphernalia, things to make handcreme with and whatever tiniest places left, my NPs are stored in small open wooden boxes. So where to store these 48 bottles is way beyond me. I do have some wooden lidded chests from IKEA to put them in but there is no easy resolution to where to put the chest.....

Well, right now the even bigger question is - how on earth do I try them all out?? I feel as giddy headed as a kid in a candy store - which one to try first??? Glitter, creme, neon, pearly??? Decisions, decisions ;-P

But first - back to the sewing mating.

DisapOInted

Normally I am a bit cheap when it comes to how much to pay for a bottle of nail polish LOL. For once I feel for the temptation to buy something expensive and decided to participate in the buy that  Nailmail hosted in November with Rescue Beauty Launge polishes. I got them last week and hid them away along with the other Christmas gifts. I got a bit disappointed when I finally opened the package - the color on RBLs webshop and what they look in real life is not the same.

The same night I tested Catherine, but she refused to dry no matter what base or top polishes. So I spelt with just Nail Tek III foundation Ridgefiller and on the morning of Christmas day it was Anne's turn. I must say both are among the best polishes I have tried when it comes to painting - the brush is just right and the formula just glides on. Two layers are more than enough.

But and that is one heck of a large BUT, the staying power is lousy. Only a couple of hours after application of Anne a large chip fell of the index finger and I promise, I had not used my nails as tools or something. My quite old Nikon Coolpix 3500 might be over the hill in some aspects, but jeeeezzz - look at the closeup of the cuticle and the polish outside the nail below, even though I have attempted some clean up :-( It does look somewhat better IRL though.

This is what the left hand looked later in the day - NTW everywhere. I'm starting to wonder if there is anything strange going on with my nails or if RBL is just another hyped up nail care company?

I am going to try out one of the other RBL polishes later on, probably after dinner. Right now I need to go back to sewing these DWR blocks.

I just plain forgot

Here in Sweden we celebrate Christmas on the Eve, not the Day. Don't ask me why cause I have no clue.

It was just the four of us and our two furry babies and since the kids (the ones without fur) is so old now that they can put of the present opening until early evening. And - they don't crave a lot of toys anymore, more like grown up guy stuff. 

Me I got myself 5 RBL polishes from Nailmail and from my sis a beautiful selection of the tiniest crystals to use as nail decoration. I have the bestest of sisters ;-)

This evening we are going over to The DHs sis to meet the family, but confess, I'd rather stay at home.

Need to fix some cards to put the Christmas money in for The DHs nieces and then, decide which one of the polishes to try out first. It's still only 10am here, but I do feel a need for a nap coming on.

Tip me sideways

After the successful French Manicure, I decided to try something else, so I did this:

Green golden Metallic from LA Girl and golden tips with Mavala Gold Glitter (I think's it's called that) but look closely at the index finger - after only one day a big chip fell of :-(

So I decided to try some Christmasy water decals I got a while ago and re-did the Frenchy for a neutral background. The description on how to use them didn't work, so I came up with my own way. The motives are so small that they can't be discerned on the nail and I think I went through four or five different themes without liking a single one.

Ok, go for the Darling idea - a Frenchy with colored tips:

Using the same Isadora polish as I used in the first French and China Glaze Ruby Pumps for the tips. Well....let me put it like this - it looks way better on the photo than IRL buhuhu. Now I am on total loss on what to do with my poor little nails.

The afternoon will be spent sewing the DWR quilt that's going to be my moving gift for my MIL, the ring looked like this:

It's a good thing she won't be moving until the 1st of February, cause this will surely takes it time. Reading the instruction on how to piece the blocks together leaves me with plentiful of ???? circling around in my head;-)

Transformed

OK I admit it, I was verrraaahhh skeptical when it came to French Manicure, but now when it's there and the lines are fairly clean-cut, I am mighty happy with it. Hahahaaaa, what a trick to get boring slightly yellowed nails to look clean and fresh again. Here I was planning to go green and glittery, but I thin I gonna keep Ms French on for one or two more days.

Have as a nice day as you can in this grey day. At least the snow stays put so it all is not totally hopeless looking. Now that last sentence might not be entirely grammatical correct, but hey -  I'm only Swedish :-)

Like a virgin

Painted for the very first time, like a vihihihirrrrgin....
As I said before, so called Frech Manicure isn't really up my alley at all. To bland, to blahaha ;-) But curious as I am, I had to try it at least once and for a virgin, I think the result is at least semi OK.

For the base I used Isadora's 111, Pink Pastel and in the bottle it looks girly light pearly pink, but on the nail it turns by some mysterious reason to a transparent nothing, no pink anywhere. But what it does, it even out the nails natural color. The first white for the tips I tried Yves Rocher's Le Blanc, French White Tip but it was way to gloppy and didn't one on seamlessly, but the brush was soooo good, thin, pointy really made for painting tips. 

The second all white polish I own is a white Sally Hansen Hard as Diamond polish, but I don't think they make that color anymore. The brush is of course a standard SH brush, so it's hard to get the line of the tip straight. A coat of Poché evened out the edges.

Who knows, with practice and a good functioning brush, I might get the hang of it. But in all honesty, I do prefer colors with some more oump to them LOL. Next time I think I'm gonna do a French manicure with a twist. Big twist.

Winter weather continues.......

For once

the weather people was right when it came to the Stockholm area and I personally don't think it was a good thing either. I promise, more than 1dm has fallen in our area so far today and more is to come. I am quite relieved that I left the car at home and took the buss to work (and yah, I do have a 4WD) cause the road conditions where less than favorable, even thought it took one hour to get there and another to get back home -  a trip that under good conditions take 10-15 minutes. But when the DH comes home and leaves his car to go on commuter train to a meeting, then you know that people truly ought to leave their cars at home. The roads are very icy and slippery, covered in new powdery snow....and most people drive like hen;-P

Today is the last day of  Lillasystersnaglars nail art brushes giveaway and I'm keeping my fingers so hardly crossed, that they almost cramp up LOL. IwhishIwishIwish.

Got as very unexpected compliment at work for my Bollywood nail - felt goooooood.

So durable

It's probably due to all the layers of topcoat, but the Bollywood mani stays put without any chipping. But I long for trying the same layout but in different colors, so it will be wiped of today or tomorrow.

I got my first NailMail order with 5 polishes from Rescue Beauty Lounge on Monday, but managed to keep myself on a tight reign and have not unpacked it. I'm gonna wrap it up real good and put it under the Christmas tree as the one and only Christmas gift for me. Oh no, the rest of the bunch is not mean, we just stopped getting Christmas presents for the grown ups years and years ago.

But I have a real problem: no matter how much all natural handmade soap and rich hand cream, the same thing has started to occur as it did last winter - thickening of the skin at the top edge closest to the nails. Hmm, there is probably a scientific name for that part of the human body, but heck if I know it. On the thumbs the thickened skin is starting to crack, last winter it was painful but we haven't reached that level yet. At first I thought it was due to the nail oil (read about that somewhere), but now I have just used my hand cream and the phenomena is coming back nevertheless. I can't help but nibble slightly or - horrors - use the nail file and buff of the residue skin, but none of it makes anything better :-(  Is there anyone out there who has any idea why this happen and what to do about it, I would be eternal grateful.

Today is homemade broccoli soup, the only good thing one can do with broccoli according to my 14yr old son LOL.

Some days

I'm just so exhausted and tired that I can hardly think straight. Hence no post today:-(

To long for

There is always something to long for even though I do believe that I have most if what I need - but still, there is stuff more or less obtainable. Like to move somewhere where there is gentle warmth all year round (have to wait until retirement), a Corvette (think that has to go with wish No1), a nice hefty diamond ring (widowhood??) and then there is something like this -  that Lillasyster pointed out - an affordable gift to myself. Just imagine all the fun you could to to your nails and it's a find!!

Hmm, I doubt very much that I'm going to be able to refrain to buy this collection;-P

Bollywood nails

Yesterday I decided to venture outside my safety zone (nailwise) for a new gradient creation. At first I picked some easy grey ones, but nehhh, too dark and too gloomy. So I went all the way with a Zoya Richelle as the base, sponged it with Sally Hansens Honeymoon Red and at the base Sally Hansen Black Diamond. Remember when I in a recent post said I don't like Zoya NPs (or they don't like me), not like like cause I think they are drop dead gorgeous, but on me they refuse to dry in acceptable time. The same happened now, even after 15 min the first layer of Rochelle was still kind of chewy and scrounged up. So I absolutely drenched it in Seche Vite and after 5 min or so, I could sponge the second layer. Needless to say - I went over the finished layers with a one more thick layer of SV.

I must say I was and still is, mighty pleased with the outcome, but of course I wanted som decorations. If I would be so ever lucky to win Lillasysters fantastic competition where you can win this:

Just imagine how creative I could get? Drawing lines would all of the sudden become a piece of cake :-) And dots...and....

So I made do with the glittery beads I bought at Weralena, matching the colors to the NPs and la voilá - Swedish nails Bollywood style. Soooo - what daya think?

Acrylics - don't do this at home

Ever since I got active on the web on all the Delphi Forums and Yahoo groups, even my first website and blog, I have been writing in English. The reason is simple - no Swedish talking people anywhere I looked. Well, just one Yahoo group I found some years ago, dedicated to quilting.

I think I told this before, but in my younger years while sporting loooooong nails, whenever one split or broke I either did a silk wrap it or glue on an acrylic nail tip and these methods worked just fine. Today they don't and I have no clue why - nothing stays put the way I want them to.

So when I was on a smallish shopping spree at Head2ToeBeauty store a month or so ago, I found this small trial kit for acrylic nails from EZ Flow for only just under 6 USD. Nowhere did it say (or I just overlooked it) that it was for professionals only. Since no instruction came with the little box, I found some on Youtube and today I decided to try the whole thing out on the left pinky nail. To get the nail form to stay put was almost impossible, but at last I managed to squeeze it in place and I could get started. To make a long story short - I realized in a few seconds why this isn't a DIYS product, the smell is so horrible and just screams DANGER at you with full force. Luckily I had hardly gotten any on my nail, the most ended up on the form and that was just the tiniest amount.

But can you imagine what kind of s-t goes into a product that stinks hardcore chemicals to heaven come from just a 2mm amount of goo? I must confess that even though having been tempted to visit a salon to get even longish nails, after this experience I doubt very much I ever will.

So I'm searching through my small stash to find some unusual (at least for me) color combination to make a new sponged mani. But first, finish cooking the baby back ribs we are going to have for dinner (hint - precook them in a broth and let cool, then you just have to glaze them and grill, more succulent ribs you have to look hard to fin ;-P). And - I have to start audition which fabrics that will go into the quilt I'm going to make for my darling MIL.

Now look, isn't that a plan for a quite creative weekend?

Dagens glädjeämne

Sam ringde på väg från skolan och berättade att han hade fått VG på senaste matteprovet. Yipiii!!! Inte för att det har gått dåligt i 8an, inte ett endaste IG, men G i samtliga ämnen utom ett. Jissa om jag är superstolt mamma - min stora älskling är på väg mot nya storheter.

Mannen ringde från julmiddan med nån from förhoppning att jag skulle åka in till stan och hämta honom men 1) så ligger jag i sängen och 2) så har jag druckit 2 glas vin till middan. Ett litet jippi, så slapp jag det ;-)

Glamour

Peppad av en bild på Lillasysters blogg, gjorde jag min första svampning på evigheter. Men när jag letade efter lacker att använda, insåg jag att min samling är lätt stereotyp, inte några mer vågade färger här inte. Iaf  inte såna jag tyckte passade ihop, men jag kanske är feg?? Oh fasa :-O

Nåja lila är ju aldrig fel, så ursäkta bildkvalitén  (den är verkligen förskräcklig och det svarta lacket ser mer gloppigt ut än vad det är i verkliga livet)  men detta är det enda fotot som ser någorlunda OK ut. Man får väl skylla på det genom usla, näst intill obefintliga dagsljuset.  Men lite bling så blev det rätt coolt tycker jag:

En stor kram

Hur dum får man va´?

Ibland måste man ju skämmas lite över sin egen korkhet......Som vem som är vem som är gulliga att skriva kommentarer här.... Åsa är min lillasyster och Lillasyster är den talangfulla tjejen som har Lillasystersnaglar bligen. Ingenting annat. Å jag som först trodde att syrran helt plötsligt hade blivit nageltokig ;-P Ack ja ack ja. :-O

Lacka mig hit och lacka mig dit

Tog en titt på Nailmails senaste erbjudande - olika Essie paket. När jag tänker efter så äger jag bara ett enda Essie lack - Little Brown Dress och det funkar inte alls för mig. Tjockt och gloppigt och svårt att på snyggt. Om jag tänker efter ändå mer, finns det fler lack som inte faller mig på läppen än som gör det; Viva la Diva, H&M, Vero Moda, Depend (som faktiskt funkar urbra att stämpla Konadstämplar med), Sally Hansen, Orly - ingen av dom fungerar fullständigt på mina naglar av en eller den andra anledningen. Sen har vi Zoya, som jag egentligen älskar, de har världens ballaste, coolaste, häftigaste färger, lätta att måla med  och har en snygg textur. Men dom funkar helt enkelt inte på mina naglar, dvs de vill aldrig torka fullständigt, var sig jag låter dom göra det själv eller använder snabblack ovanpå. Varje gång nån nageltokig blogare visar upp ett nytt läckert Zoya lack, så rycker det i vill-ha tarmen och jag känner en nästan oemotståndlig lust att kasta mig in på Ebay och shoppa lite. Som tur är så sansar jag mig och låtsas som det regnar;-)

Jaha, vilka lacket gillar jag då? Mest av allt Color Club och China Glaze......om jag tänker efter ännu lite mer, så är det nog dom två märkena jag använder nästan jämnt. Jag erkänner att jag är småsnål, så svindyra lacket som Ilamasqua, Deborah Lippman eller Rescue Beauty Lounge har ännu INTE (ska det vara) hittat hem till mig. Ännu. Inte. Alls. Men, jag vet att tomten kommer att komma med ett paket med fem lacker från en av dessa märken. Sadly but true, så var det 6e slut hos leverantören - buhuhu och naturligtvis var det det häftigaste jag sett som jag inte får :-(

Till slut så hade jag min egen lilla adventskalenderslucköppning (tappa inte andan), ja det är nog den enda, men ett litet paket med skojiga saker från Born Pretty, ett kinesiskt företag som satsa på att vara billigare än Ebay, så det blev lite dekorationer och slipmojänger för en riktigt billig penning och paketet kom hit på endast 1,5v:-D Hmm, nä nu måste jag nog gå ner och testa några av pärlpluttarna som kom i en liknade ask som de blingiga jag köpte från Weralena häromveckan. Kan ju inte låta Fiona som har varit på manikyr, få de snyggaste klorna i familjen ;-9

Stackars mina små

Ursäkta den usla bildkvalitén, men det blir inte bättre när man fotar med vänsterhand - om man är högerhänt alltså;-P Lyckades klyva höger långfingernagel för ett tag sedan och nu i veckan som gått gick den lilla utväxten av ner till nagelplattan. Inte nog med den, pekfingret hade flaggat sig så att det inte heller ville vara med....Så med sorg i sinnet bestämde jag mig för att klippa av alla naglar på båda händerna till kort-kort, för det såg ju inte så tjusfullt ut att ha 7 hyfsat långa och tre korta... 

Sax??? säger ni säkert, varenda kotte vet ju att man inte ska klippa sina naglar (på händerna) men men - det står ju i Rescue Beauty Lounge boken att man ska (hmm, står det verkligen ska??)/kan använda sax och att fila ner längre naglar tar ju såååå lång tiiiiiid. Men mina naglar är hårda, det är så lätt att slå ut en flisa eller att dom börjar flagga sig som Filodeg, allt beroende på vilken nagel vi pratar om. Alltså - kan nån förklara varför vissa naglar som växer samma människa, fungerar olika? Jag misstänker iaf starkt att det inte var det smartaste draget att klippa dom - vad i hela fridens namn tänkte jag på? Jag som enbart använt saxen till tånaglarna i flera år? Nåja, den som lever får se - att flisa eller inte flisa, det är frågan LOL.

Nu ska jag baslacka minna stackars kortisar och kolla igenom samling om jag hittar ett lack som är lagom diskret, men ändå piggar upp. Det lär inte bli lätt;-)

PS Det är oerhört orättvist att just jag av alla tre kvinnorna i min familj, har så löjligt små nagelbäddar:-( Dom andra två (dvs syrran och mamma) har stora mandelformade skönheter och inte är dom fast i nagellacksträsket dom inte. Fusk det är vad det är. DS

Mjuka tassar

Tänkte först kliva upp på tvållådan och hålla ett litet braskade tal om all falsk marknadsföring som råder runt naturliga/aromatherapi etc när det gäller hudvård (apropå en liten artikel i senaste numret av Råd & Rön kallad "SKUMT i badet". Men även om jag anser mig vara jämras kunnig i ämnet, så skulle det inte bli för träigt och tråkigt att läsa här???

Så kolla - kolla, istället förgyller jag er dag med detta:

frukten av gårdagens handcreme tillverkning. Ni vet, i ett tidigare inlägg skrev jag om att den sista burken från förra batchen var slut och i ett anfall av slöhet köpte (för första gången sen 2001) jag två olika handcremer - Dove och Crabtree & Evelyn. Och här, just här, har jag skrivit många stygga saker om dem allehanda sk naturliga produkter, men insåg snabbt att jag inte ville stöta mig med någon. Men helt allvarligt talat, de produkterna är verkligen ingenting för mig.

Så igår tog jag mig i kragen och plockade fram våg, oljor och fetter, känt vårdade växtextrakter och fullständigt naturliga doftämnen. Till skillnad mot allt ni hittar i butiker, innehåller denna creme bara en endaste konstgjord produkt - en parabenblandning (konserveringsmedel) från Crearome. Det är inte rekomenderbart att göra vattenbaserade crèmer utan ett riktigt konserveringsmedel (och jag lovar - rosmarinextrakt är inte det) - gissa hur jag vet;-P

Receptet är mitt alldeles egna, vässat och tweakat över åren genom "trial and eror", full med allehanda nyttigheter såsom min alldeles egengjorda valltörtstinktur vilken är känd sen urminnes tider för sin sår och benbrottsläkande förmåga. Nu är min handcreme nära nog så perfekt man kan komma - inte tjock och gloppig, utan lätt  - fluffigt som en ansiktscreme.  Trots att den innehåller massor med fettet och oljor, så smälter den ändå snabbt in i huden. Och doftar det gör den - underbart!! Rosenvatten, Sandelträ Mysore (köpt innan Indisk Sandelträ hamnade på listan över utrotningshotade växter), vanilj absolut och eterisk olja från grön citron. Många har testat de olika versionerna av cremerna över åren som gått och en del glada trädgårds"tomtar" samt min gulliga svärmor har deklarerat att min kräm är den bästa handcreme de någonsin provat:-D

Om nån undrar så tycker jag inte att allt naturligt är bäst - bara för att råvaror kommer från naturen innehär det inte att de är ofarliga. T.ex. är etersik olja från kanel bark startkt sensitiviserande och citrusoljor (mest bergamot)  kan ge bruna fläckar på huden om man går ut i solen strax efteråt som aldrig försvinner. Kommer så väl ihåg att under hela min ungdom så varnades man för att använda cologne och parfym innan solbad. Och helt självklart - är man allergisk mot nötter så är man allergisk mot nöt- oljor och fettet. Jag har bara ett gott råd att ge om du vet med dig att du är överkänslig eller allergisk mot något ämne - läs alltid innehållsförteckningen väldigt noggrant.

När jag började fundera över vad jag hittat på att testat att göra under årens lopp, kom jag fram till denna lista (dock ej i  kronologisk ordning); tvål. bivax- och sojaljus både gjutna och i behållare, massageljus, crèmer och salvor för: hud, ansikte, fötter, händer samt vovvetassar, body lotion och butter, sugar bodyscrubs, lavendel och ros ansiktsscrub, massageoljor, cerat, läppglans, mineral makeup samt inte minst - min passion - botaniska parfymer!

Attan - nu blev det lite låda i alla fall, bäst att hoppa ner fort som bara den ;-9

Nätmobbing

Från en som varit med på nätet sen -96 (jahaja, ingen kan ju kalla mig pionjär LOL)  så måste jag ju erkänna att även om webben är rent fantastiskt, så är det ändå inte enbart av godo. Nu när Facebook lockar alla och en var, verkar det inte vara någon som tänker på den personliga säkerheten. Jo vi och en IT säkerhetschef, men det verkar vara ungefär allt och vi kommer väl att gå i graven som de enda på denna planet som inte är på FB;-P Och jag lovar, våra barn får inte hänga där. Och idag kom Sam hem och berättade att någon i hans årskurs har skapat en blog där han/hon lagt ut bilder på tjejer i 8an samt taskiga kommentarer om dem. Nu var ju detta som sagt en blogg, men sonen såg ändå sambandet med FB och hur den här sortens nätmobbing sprider sig med vindens hastighet. Skolan gick direkt in och spärrade bloggens URL på skolans datorer och jag hoppas att tjejernas föräldrar gör gemensam rättssak av det hela.

När jag var ung (ja typ så där på stenåldern eller nått om du frågar mina barn LOL) så var den tidens mobbning hemsk nog men den höll sig ju inom ett begränsat område. Men idag ..... är man ju ett uthängt villebråd jorden runt på några sekunder. .... Ibland kan man bara inte låta bli

Alltså jag erkänner det villigt - jag brukar då aldrig delta i tävlingar, utlottningar mm på webben. Antingen har dom så knäppa regler (som att man måste vara på Facebook) eller också har jag barndommens hopplösa lottlösa lotter i färskt minne. Men nu har Helena på Lipgloss Bitch dragit igång sin adventskalender och dagens vinst (Lucka nr 3)ser ut som en riktig godsak som jag inte skulle ha det minsta emot att vinna.
